This project was completed in May 1989 and represents the culmination of a long and complex programme between local Churches and the London Dockland Development Corporation. It aims to provide much needed worship and community facilities in a totally new area. The centre contains a worship space for 200 people, which can be easily enlarged by opening up an adjoining dining hall. Churchiness is not stressed for the building incorporates a wide variety and scale of spaces, from creche to games hall, giving scope for most community activities and flexibility for changing needs. For a building such as this to be successful, it is vital that people feel free to wander in without embarrassment. The main entrance is thus extensively glazed and the public is encouraged to come in, passing through the coffee bar on a route planned to link with a proposed town square.
