APEC Architects were appointed by Dame Elizabeth Cadbury Technology College, Bournville in May 2013 to produce a masterplan for their school which, through gradual expansion over the past 50 years, had become inefficient in its lay-out. With a number of developments proposed in the future, the first phase of the scheme involved refurbishment of five areas of the building, including conversion of an existing library into new classrooms.

APEC acted as project managers, cost-consultants and provided health and safety advice to streamline the process. The work was designed, tendered and completed on an extremely short time-scale, three months in total, with a three week build period. With construction taking place during the summer holiday, this allowed the school to continue functioning even while summer-clubs and training was in progress. In the design of the scheme, we provided the best-value specification while injecting colour and excitement into teaching and ancillary spaces, to provide a stimulating environment for students and teachers.
