We worked in a team with expert craftspeople to restore the Grade II* Listed church and design a new adjoining building to house community facilities and an arts cafe.

Birmingham’s historic parish church was restored as the focal point of the Bullring shopping centre. The new community facilities were designed to wrap around the existing disjointed buildings and create a unified frontage onto the Open Markets.

…APEC Architects have carried out an excellent and painstaking restoration of St Martin’s in the Bull Ring, and the key architectural success of the entire development is the relationship between the old church and the new Selfridge’s glittering and curvaceous facade.

It’s a place of wonder and enchantment, the people’s church, restored to the centre of the city and serving the people of Birmingham in many different ways.

Today this important Grade II* Listed beautifully restored Victorian church... sits beautifully against the futuristic Selfridges’ store.
